Micro Machines R2-D2 Playset

Classic Trilogy Star Wars Playset that opens up into Jabba's Palace and Rancor Pit

Features

  • Luke Skywalker
  • Gamorrean Guard
  • Lando (in disguise)
  • Leia (as Boushh)
  • Rancor
  • Jabba
  • Jabba's Sail Barge
  • push Jabba's dais forward to open trapdoor
  • pull up Rancor gate
  • peg for Sail Barge

R2 looks great both in normal mode and playset mode. The stickers are minimal, and I love the artwork. Plus, the Rancor is amazing and the only one available from classic Micro Machines. Other figures are really cool, but nothing matches the Rancor.

The only downside is that there's not a lot of features for play.

  1. Something I noticed having two of these sets is that there appears to have been either a running change or a variant of sorts. The newer one I got has a Jabba with a rectangular slot (with a matching throne), while the one I had growing up has two peg slots. Taking a closer look at that Jabba, it seems to be the same mold with the old rectangular slot filled in and the two peg holes added.

So my guess would be the rectangular slotted Jabba and throne were the first variant, and after Galoob saw it was unstable (I can’t get Jabba to not be flopping about his throne for the life of me), they switched to the peg slots instead.

    • That’s a neat find. It doesn’t surprise me. They often changed little things like that when they discovered something wasn’t working.
