Star Wars Micro Machines X-Ray Fleet

Clear miniature starships with brightly colored interiors

No ship that small has a cloaking device

To be honest, I never really got into these as a kid. These are roughly the size of the Titanium die-cast line, and they come with similar stands. Each ship has 2 clear shells with brightly painted interiors designed to show the inner details. It's very basic, but it kinda works. Galoob also released the first 4 sets in a painted collector's set, which also has a Lambda-class Shuttle.

As a collector, I've tried collecting the last 3 sets, which are super rare. I'm still missing set VI.

I'm not 100% sure, but these molds seem very similar to the ones used in the Micro Vehicles series Hasbro released in 2005.

X-Ray Books

Two kids books included X-ray ships, an X-wing and the Falcon. These came out in the mid-90s and have a very retro art style to them.

Prototypes

I was lucky to be able to get some prototypes of the Slave I and Y-wing. You can see the grey styrene used and the orange R2 unit. I think designers used these to test fit pieces and look for flaws, as it would be hard to see issues on the clear versions. Plus, clear styrene is harder to cast and more brittle. So, any test versions would most likely use a basic colored plastic.

Micro Vehicles

It seems Hasbro used the molds in their Micro Vehicles collection from 2005. Check out the comparison photo to the right.
