I got this Fisher Price Death Star Turbolaser in today from Amazon, and it's better than I expected. Take the figure out, and you have a good Turbolaser display that you could easily paint and weather or glue a stand to. It's perfect for MGS. And it would make a great canvas to practice weathering skills. As of April 19, it's still $6.39 on Amazon.

$20 retail is nuts but I can definitely swing garage-sale pricing. What’s a good intro paint set for weathering?
Yeah, 6 bucks is definitely reasonable. You could go a few ways for weathering. You could go the enamel/oils route and get some Abteilung Starship Filth oil paint and odorless mineral spirits. You can make a wash, streaks, splatters, whatever – just seal it or it can rub off.
Or you can go acrylic, get some Vallejo washes or just thin down any acrylic to get whatever effect you want.
Sweet. I think I’d just want something darker, maybe a little outlining to the molding marks.
Also, did you see the echo-base set?? What’s the scale for that ion cannon/shield generator!?

The Starship Filth is pretty dark, darker than the images. It’s basically an oil/grease color. Vallejo has a black wash that looks great.
And wow, I hadn’t seen the Hoth Ion Cannon. That’s pretty cool. No idea on scale, and I’m not buying it unless it drops significantly in price.
